About Bequia

Beautiful Bequia (pronounced bek-way) was named by the Arawak Caribs and means ‘Island of Clouds’. It is an undiscovered paradise, the Caribbean of 30 years ago.

Covering an area of just 7 square miles and with a population of only 6000 people, Bequia lies in the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea. It is just a short plane hop from the ever popular Barbados and next to the renowned Mustique, both favourite islands of the rich and famous. As the largest of the Grenadine Islands, known also as the ‘Jewels of the Caribbean’, it is blessed with several pristine, natural and undeveloped white sandy beaches. The recently renovated Belmont Walkway joins three of these beautiful beaches together and meanders around two headlands offering both excellent snorkelling and a leisurely 2 mile walk passing rum bars, cafes, restaurants and small boutique style shops.

Bequia truly is a unique Island. Large enough to be interesting and exciting, yet small enough to retain its local charm and uniqueness that only a small ‘off the beaten track’ Caribbean Island can offer. Wherever you go on Bequia, you will be given the warmest of welcomes. They know you are here to relax and everyone is happy to help you have the holiday of a lifetime. If you want resort hotels, nightclubs and beaches full of sunbeds, don’t come to Bequia. If you want to discover the undiscovered, visit our beautiful Island, enjoy the uncrowded pristine white sandy beaches, swim and snorkel in our safe and warm Caribbean waters and experience the genuine friendliness of the local Bequian people.

Inquire locally for current conditions and characteristics of each beach, as they can change due to weather and other factors. There are even some remote beaches if you fancy the hike. Sunscreen, hats and cover-up are advised and drink plenty of water, to remain hydrated in the glorious sunny weather.

RESTAURANTS & NIGHTLIFE

Bequia has a number of great restaurants, bars and cafés. Whether your preference is for international or regional dishes, there is sure to be something for you. Freshly caught seafood including fish, lobster and conch is always a great option, but you will find everything from Italian pizzas, American hamburgers and world class French cuisine.

There are a few small supermarkets on Bequia and several food stores selling everything from fresh bread and cheese to breakfast cereals and milk. Fresh fruit and vegetables are available from the friendly vendors who have their stores and tables along the main street and for the experienced haggler you can venture into the Rasta vegetable market for a colourful and memorable shopping experience.

TIPPING

Tipping is very much appreciated for staff at approximately 5-10%. Our team recommend that any tips are spread out throughout the stay. This sets a positive atmosphere at the villa and reassures staff that their service is appreciated.

Wonderful place and week of relaxation. As soon as we arrived we knew we had found exactly what we like…seclusion, peacefulness, beauty and a vibe that resets the soul. We loved having Matthew right there to provide meals and assistance with anything we needed. We snorkeled on each side of the house in our own private paradise. Don’t miss out on this experience!

K Lambrecht

We did a lot of activities on the island including scuba diving with Ron at Dive Adventures, Estate tour at Firefly, awesome views at Spring View park, boat trip to the Tobago Cays, all of the beaches (although our fav was the one in front of Sandrock). My husband who is an avid scuba diver said that Bequia has been of the best diving that he’s done in over 20 years.

E Hill

I stayed at the Sandrock for 10 nights with my husband. We found it the perfect place to unwind away from busy day-to-day life. From the private pool to the glorious beaches, this place was a dream come true…

A Green

Sandrock Villa is a must visit! The property is absolutely gorgeous and the views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea are to die for!

N Bishop

We had a fantastic week here and didn’t want to the trip to end. The villa layout and garden/outdoor area was perfect. The pictures certainly don’t do it justice. We will definitely be going back in the future.

FAQs

Taxis are widely available on Bequia so you do not necessarily need to hire a vehicle for your stay. We can give you the contact details for local taxis and they will happily collect you from Sandrock Villa.

Each day a number of ferries depart Bequia, headed for St Vincent main island. You can get there and back within the day and there are many things to see; we recommend the Botanical Gardens in Kingstown, Dark View Falls or a hike to the top of La Soufrière volcano (we do recommend hiring a guide for this and can give you a contact for this).

We don’t have a television at Sandrock Villa, we feel the beauty of our surroundings is enough to keep us entertained. We do have good WiFi though so you can easily download or stream your favourite shows if you so wish.

We highly recommend a boat trip to the Southern Grenadines, in particularly the protected  Tobago Cays Marine Park. We can give you details for boat charters or ferry services.

Sandrock Villa enjoys a quiet and secluded location on the southern most tip of Bequia. As a result, shops and amenities are a taxi or car ride away. Therefore we recommend packing some essentials so you have them upon arrival at the Villa;

  • High factor suncream & aftersun lotion
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Hydrocortisone bite cream

Sandrock Villa has large tropical gardens and sun deck, a perfect place for outdoor yoga. We recommend local yoga instructor Rae-Dawne John who can be hired to take your very own private lesson.

We also recommend trying a fishing charter, there are some great deep sea fishing sites near Saint Vincent. We can give you details for several fishing charters in the area.

If keeping your feet on solid ground is more your thing, Sandrock Villa is not far from the start of the short hike up Ma’ Peggy (Bequia’s highest point). Try this to take in some stunning views of the Grenadine islands.
